    What’s the difference between a full sand and a screen & recoat?

    A full sand removes the old finish and a thin layer of the wood’s surface, allowing the floor to be completely refinished as new. A screen & recoat (also called a buff & recoat) is lighter: it simply removes the top layer of finish and applies a new coat. If your floor has deep scratches, stains, or heavy wear, a full sand is recommended. If the wood is in good condition but looking dull, a screen & recoat can refresh it quickly and cost-effectively.

    How long will my wood floor last after sanding and refinishing?

    With proper care, a newly sanded and refinished wood floor can last 7–10 years before it may need another restoration. The exact lifespan depends on foot traffic, type of wood, and how well it’s maintained. High-traffic areas may require attention sooner, but with the right cleaning routine and protective measures, your floor will stay beautiful for many years.

    Will there be much dust or mess during the sanding process?

    Modern sanding equipment is designed with dust-extraction systems that capture the majority of dust. While no process is 100% dust-free, we use professional machines that keep disruption to a minimum. We also carefully seal off work areas and tidy up after the job, so your home is left clean and safe once the work is complete.

    How should I maintain my floor after it’s been restored?

    To keep your restored wood floor in top condition:

    • Clean regularly with a microfibre mop and a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner.
    • Avoid harsh chemicals, steam cleaners, or soaking the floor with water.
    • Place mats at entrances to catch grit and dirt.
    • Use felt pads under furniture to prevent scratches.

    With the right care, your floor will keep its shine and protection for many years.

    How much does wood floor sanding and restoration typically cost?

    Costs depend on the size of the area, the condition of the floor, and the type of finish chosen. As a guide, professional sanding and refinishing usually ranges from £25–£45 per square metre. A site visit allows us to give you an accurate, no-obligation quote tailored to your floor’s needs.
